Certified Transport Registered Nurse Certification Practice Test - Prep & Study Guide

The brace position is a safety posture taken during an emergency situation on an aircraft, designed to protect individuals from injury during potential impact. Passengers are instructed to assume the brace position as a part of emergency preparedness protocols. This position typically involves bending forward with arms protecting the head and neck, minimizing the risk of injury from the sudden forces experienced during an emergency landing or crash.

While crew members, including flight attendants and pilots, play crucial roles in managing emergencies and ensuring passenger safety, it is the passengers themselves who are directly instructed to adopt the brace position when an emergency is imminent. This procedure emphasizes the need for passengers to be proactive in their safety measures and understand their responsibilities in an emergency event. The crew, including pilots and flight attendants, will often lead by example, but the specific direction to assume the brace position is aimed primarily at passengers.
